About Your French Teacher

Bonjour!

Je suis Pamela Vasquez, or Madame V, as my high school students call me.

It is my goal to make French accessible to all students and to dispel the myth that learning French is hard. I accomplish this by using language that is easy to understand and by building positive rapport with my students. My classes are unlike the classes you may have experienced in high school. I do not do verb drills or have vocabulary tests. I use comprehensible language in contexts that are interesting and important to my students, resulting in increased engagement and early and on-going success.

I have loved French my entire life. My earliest childhood memories include those of my mother teaching me to count in French and to sing simple French songs like Frère Jacques. She also bought bilingual children's books and read them to me.

When I started high school, it was only natural that I chose to study French. I immediately fell in love with the language and the culture of France. I decided to major in French when I was only 14 years old. I received a B.A. in French and then an M.A. in French with a specialization in Civilization and Culture. My experience has transformed my life and has been the foundation of my desire to teach French to others.

It has been my passion and joy to teach French to my students and to inspire in them the same enthusiasm for the French language and francophone cultures that I have.  To that end, I have been teaching French for over 20 years. My experience ranges from private schools and public schools to homeschool co-ops and private tutoring.
