Developmental Editing

Big-picture feedback to strengthen your story, structure, and credibility.

Whether you're writing your first reader or refining a draft you've used with students, developmental editing is a great place to start. I’ll review your manuscript with an eye toward:

  • Plot structure and pacing

  • Character development and consistency

  • Clarity, tone, and flow

  • Cultural relevance and accuracy

  • Alignment with proficiency-based instruction

If there’s something specific you’d like feedback on — vocabulary level, dialogue, engagement — just let me know.

You’ll receive your feedback in the form of an editorial letter: a detailed document that explains what’s working well, what could be improved, and suggestions to guide your revisions. It’s not just a list of corrections — it’s thoughtful, big-picture guidance that respects your voice and helps you move forward with confidence.

Developmental editing is available for materials written in French or English.

Rates

For first-time clients, I charge $75 for an editorial letter. This includes a 30-minute follow-up conversation (optional) to answer questions or help you think through revisions.

Additional editing support — whether on the same project or a future one — is billed at $40/hour.

Copy Editing

Refining your language while keeping your voice intact.

Copyediting focuses on both the mechanics of your writing and the clarity of your message. I review your manuscript line by line to correct grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure, while also improving flow and tone.

I approach each project from the perspective of both a language teacher and a language learner — noticing where language may be confusing, inconsistent, or too complex for your intended proficiency level — and offer suggestions to make your writing smooth, accurate, and classroom-ready.

You’ll receive your manuscript with suggested edits tracked and a brief summary of overall observations.

Rates:

  • Billed at $40/hour for longer projects

  • Minimum charge: Billed in 15 minute increments at $40/hour for resource editing.

Proofreading

Final polish before publication.

Proofreading is your last line of defense before releasing your material. I’ll scan for:

  • Grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors

  • Typographical mistakes and formatting issues

  • Repeated or missing words

This is best suited for manuscripts that have gone through the copy editing process and are otherwise complete and ready for final review. Your manuscript should be formatted for publication. I will conduct this review of a PDF of your manuscript but will also need a Google Doc or Word version. You’ll receive your manuscript with suggested edits tracked and a brief summary of overall observations.

Glossary Creation and Formatting

Every word matters — and every word deserves clarity.

In CI-style readers, the glossary is an essential instructional tool — not just a bonus feature. I create or revise glossaries to ensure they reflect every word and idiomatic phrase used in your text, in line with best practices in comprehensible input materials.

I don’t assume students “should already know” certain words. Instead, I treat the glossary as a complete, accurate support for readers who may be encountering these terms for the first time.

What I offer:

  • Full-text glossaries that list every word and phrase used in the story

  • Accurate, student-friendly definitions (English or French, depending on your format)

  • Consistent formatting and alignment with the vocabulary level of your intended audience

If you already have a glossary, I can revise it for accuracy, consistency, and formatting.
