The second step of the process to prepare your book for publication, copy editing polishes your text by improving clarity, consistency, grammar, and style, while preserving your unique voice..
A copy editor looks at your manuscript before it is put into publication layout.
When I copy edit, I check grammar, spelling, punctuation, and level-appropriate language use. As a former comprehension-focused language teacher, I put myself in the place of a student reader and note sections where clarification is needed. I also check for consistency of style, characters, illustrations, and storyline. At this stage, I will fact check your story and may offer additional feedback on the representation of identities and cultures.
I offer copy editing services in Spanish, English, and Portuguese billed at $35/hour. Feedback will be delivered in comments directly on the your manuscript (PDF, MS Word, or Google Doc). I will also send an email summarizing any overarching observations.
After copy editing, you will be ready to create your glossary. I am happy to offer support with glossary creation and formatting.
